    Assistive Technology

     What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology is an umbrella term used to describe technology that is used to empower people with varying abilities to live, work and study on an equal playing field.

Assistive Technology helps students with a wide spectrum of disabilities and/or learning difficulties including dyslexia, visual impairments, hearing impairments and mobility impairments.

The competitive advantage individuals, schools, colleges and universities can develop and sustain through the application of Assistive Technology can be significant.  There is a vast spectrum of technologies that cater to individuals, specific groups and an entire base regardless of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.  These technologies are designed for individuals to access and achieve their true potential.

Is Assistive Technology only for people who have disabilities?

No. Assistive Technology is used by a spectrum of people. Many AT products are applied in ways that can act as a disability tool and/or as a productivity tool.

    Who we are

Started in 1992, Nasser and Vee continue to ensure Microlink remains true to its founding principles.  Microlink PC UK was instrumental in the forming and development of many of the United Kingdom bodies and would be best suited to consult with the relevant associations in order to correctly and efficient put into place a similar process for the South African Market.

Dr Nasser Siabi OBE - CEO / Co-founder

Born in Iran in 1963 Dr Nasser Siabi OBE is the CEO and co-founder of Microlink. He has been instrumental in driving the success of the company and the development of the industry.

In 1992, having achieved his PhD in Electronics and Computer Science at Southampton University the previous year, Dr Siabi OBE set out to establish Microlink. Dr Siabi’s interest in the application of technologies to help people with disabilities, stems from working with his own disability.

His entrepreneurial flair, combined with his passion with delivering solutions for people with disabilities, has seen Microlink develop to become the largest and most innovative assistive technology company in Europe.

Recently thanks to his dedicated services to Assistive Technology in the United Kingdom, Dr Siabi was awarded an “Order of the British Empire” for his services and philanthropic efforts in aiding and improving life quality for people with disabilities.

Dr Siabi has been at the forefront of disabilities support and is one of the foundering members of both the British Dyslexic Association (BDA), the Disabilities Student Allowance Scheme (DSA-QAG), the British Assistive Technology Association (BATA) and the Business Disabilities Forum (BDF) all of which are dedicated to equality in all aspects of a person personal and working life.

Mr. Vahid Ganjavian (Vee) – President / Co-founder

Born in 1962, in the middle East country of Iran, Vee moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a career in financial banking and trading.

Working Financial Futures and international banking Vee was fortunate that his career took him to many different countries throughout his career including South Africa with a stint at one of South Africa’s largest banking groups.

Vee’s passion for giving people with disabilities greater access to independence and achievements, stems from working with his own disability. Vee struggled in school, finding subjects like English literature very problematic but excelling in maths and physics. As an adult he was diagnosed with dyslexia and felt that it is extremely important to raise awareness in this area for future generations to better connect in education.

Suffering from dyslexia Vee found that many of the products on the market at the time were not suitable for what he needed and along with Dr. Siabi began to write their own “patch software” in order to overcome the hurdles the shortfalls experience with the products at that time, it was at this point that he realised an opportunity in the UK and European market and the concept of Microlink PC was born.

Mr. Danny Havenga - Director Microlink South Africa

After spending a year in the United Kingdom in 2008 and having met the Microlink PC founding directors Dr. Nasser Siabi OBE and Mr. Vahid Ganjavian, I started Microlink South Africa with the aim of developing disabilities awareness in Southern Africa and providing the best equipment and support the industry has to offer.

Also a Dyslexic, I have made it my personal aim to discover and distribute the best Assistive Technology Solutions to those who need it most.

With Partnerships in other business in South Africa, once again specialising in disabilities this relationship with Microlink PC United Kingdom was a natural progression to greater things.
